At Way2MedSchool, we feel the personal statement is a great opportunity for the student's application to stand out; an area of incredible importance considering how competitive entry to Medicine is! However, the personal statement is often under-utilised and poorly done.
Medical Schools view the personal statement in different ways. Some consider it alongside your A-Level/GCSE/UCAT scores when making an offer, others state that they do not consider it at all. Numerous Medical Schools are in the middle, and although do not use it to make an offer directly, they may use your personal statement as a talking point in interview, or use it when comparing two students with similar scores. It's important to fully understand the entry requirements of the universities you are applying to for this very reason.
